(Managua, Nicaragua)–
ZCC has been awarded a $59.2 million contract by the U.S.
Department of State's overseas Building Operations bureau
for design/ build services for the new U.S. Embassy Compound
in Managua, Nicaragua.
The project began on October
20, 2004, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-January
2005. The 24-month job is scheduled for completion in October
2006 – a very aggressive goal, according to the project
and design managers.
The project’s scope includes
construction of nine new facilities totaling 123,000 square
feet on approximately 60 acres of land located around the
base of an extinct volcano.
Security features, such as
site perimeter barriers, are a major element of the project.
Facilities will consist of the main chancery building (commonly
called the “embassy”), four compound access buildings,
marine quarters, a utility building, a support services building
and a warehouse. In keeping with the project’s specifications,
the project’s design and construction will follow mandates
in the DOS Standard Embassy Design (SED) model.
Zachry is currently working
on two other embassy projects, one in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
and the largest on record in Beijing, China.
