Full Operation for Sempra's Newest and
Largest Power Plant in Arizona

(Houston, Texas) - On November
11, 2003, Sempra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of Sempra
Energy, (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) began commercial
operation on the second block of a $500 million project at
its Mesquite Power Plant (Plant 1048547) (PEC 43000268)in
Tonopah, Arizona.
Construction on the Mesquite Power
Station began in September 2001. The first block of
this power project, which became operational in June
of 2003, contains two 167.5 megawatt (Mw) combustion
turbines with HRSG'S and one 290 Mw steam turbine, for
a combined total of 625 Mw. The second phase of the
project gave the Mesquite Power Plant an additional
625 MW, which consists of two, 167.5 Mw combustion turbines
with HRSGs and one, 290 Mw steam turbine. This puts
the power station's capacity at 1,250 Mw.
For this project, Sempra Energy Resources
used the engineering and construction services of a
joint venture of Black and Veatch Corporation and Zachry.
