Calpine Begins Commercial Operation of Texas Power

Calpine Corporation began
commercial operation of the Deer Park Energy Center,
located in Deer Park, Texas, in Harris County. Construction
for the new plant began in September 2001 and was completed
in early August 2003.
The plant consists
of two natural, gas-fired 187 Mw Seimens Westinghouse
Power Corporation W501FD combustion turbine generators
attached to two, Nooter/Eriksen HRSGs (heat recovery
steam generators) that are now operational. In summer
2004, Calpine plans to add two additional combustion
turbines, and a steam turbine to convert the Deer Park
Energy Center into a four-on-one combined-cycle power
station.
The owner's engineering
contract was awarded to Burns & Roe Group Incorporated.
The general construction contract was awarded to Zachry.
