Calpine Begins Commercial Operation of Texas Power Plant

September 5, 2003

(Houston, Texas) Calpine Corporation began commercial operation of the Deer Park Energy Center, located in Deer Park, Texas, in Harris County. Construction for the new plant began in September 2001 and was completed in early August 2003.

The plant consists of two natural, gas-fired 187 Mw Seimens Westinghouse Power Corporation W501FD combustion turbine generators attached to two, Nooter/Eriksen HRSGs (heat recovery steam generators) that are now operational. In summer 2004, Calpine plans to add two additional combustion turbines, and a steam turbine to convert the Deer Park Energy Center into a four-on-one combined-cycle power station.

The owner's engineering contract was awarded to Burns & Roe Group Incorporated. The general construction contract was awarded to Zachry.
