ZCC/ AMEC Alliance Delivers Coast-to-Coast
Construction Solutions for Cement Manufacturing Plants
August 2006
(San Antonio, TX) - The Zachry/ AMEC alliance last month began construction of a new cement plant expansion in Brooksville, Florida. The $150 million expansion project being performed for plant owner Rinker Materials Corporation includes the addition of a new pyroprocessing line, which will help increase cement manufacturing capacity up to 2 million tons per year (TPY). This represents a significant increase from the current capacity of 800,000 TPY. FL Smidth has been awarded a $64 million contract to supply the new production line.
This project is the second cement manufacturing expansion project kicked off by the ZCC/ AMEC alliance within the last 12 months. Late last year, ZCC and AMEC began construction of a $350 million modernization project for TXI Cement in Oro Grande, California (see ZachryWay related story | PDF).
The project for TXI will replace an older TXI facility that has less environmentally sound technology. The new plant will include a modern, single train and have the capacity of 6,000 tons of cement production per day. ZCC and AMEC, operating as Oro Grande Contractors, will provide all detail design engineering and construction for all areas, including a pyro line with kiln; cooler and pre-heater tower; raw mill; finish mill; raw and finish material storage; and a new material handling system. Initial site work and complex and personnel mobilization began in fall 2005. The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2007.
