ZCC Begins North Texas Tollway Extension
July

(Frisco, Texas) – ZCC
has mobilized on a project that will add an integral component
to North Texas’ growing highway system. Construction
of a 4.7-mile, six-lane tollway and two-lane service road
for the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) began this March,
with a projected completion date in August 2007.
“This element of the
tollway extension will help travelers commuting from Collin
and Denton Counties and all areas north of State Highway 121,”
said Jean Abiassi, operations manager for the Heavy Construction
Division. “The project is expected to increase mobility
and economic development in one of the fastest growing regions
in the state.”
The North Texas Tollway will
improve access to the City of Frisco and its historical downtown
district, as well as the new Frisco Soccer Complex scheduled
to open this summer. The roadway will also provide access
to Frisco Square, a 147-acre master-planned development. When
complete, Frisco Square will serve as the official center
for the City of Frisco.
The project includes drainage
work, grading, bridge erection, wall construction, concrete
paving, and the installation of lighting and ITS infrastructure.
To meet the $83.8 million contract’s aggressive 34-month
schedule, ZCC worked with NTTA to establish a more effective
sequence on this job. The revised plan includes closing Stonebrook
Parkway (north of Lebanon Road) and establishing an alternate
access point by building a turnaround at Burlington Northern
Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad crossing while ZCC completes the
underground work and starts the excavation of rock that will
be used in the backfill for the project’s wall construction.
