Nebraska City Power Partners Tapped to Build
New Coal-Fired Power Plant Near Nebraska City
July
2005
(Nebraska City, Neb.)–
The Nebraska City Power Partners (NCPP), joint venture composed
of Zachry, Black & Veatch and Gilbert Industrial Corp.,
recently signed an engineering, procurement and construction
(EPC) contract with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) to
build its Nebraska City Station Unit No. 2 — a 660 MW
coal-fired power plant to be built adjacent to OPPD’s
existing coal-fired plant south of Nebraska City.
“This is the first in
a series of large-scale coal-fired EPC projects anticipated
in the power industry,” said Project Executive Chris
Irwin. “It’s an important project for Zachry,
OPPD, the NCPP joint venture team and our exclusive suppliers
for the boiler and steam turbine. Successful execution of
the Nebraska City Station Unit No. 2 project will position
the companies for continued involvement in upcoming coal projects.”
While Zachry has a long history
of power plant construction, particularly with large coal-fired
power stations
like Nebraska City Station Unit No. 2, this is the company’s
first opportunity to work with OPPD, one of the nation’s
largest publicly owned electric utilities.
Zachry’s joint venture
partners, Gilbert Industrial Corporation and Black & Veatch,
also have substantial experience in power plant construction
and have performed several projects for OPPD.
