Employees' Generosity is Measured in Tons
Nov.
2004
(Parrish, Florida) - From flour to
macaroni to canned fruit, more than 17 tons of food
were collected recently by Parrish-based Zachry employees
and donated to the Salvation Army for the holidays.
About 200 Zachry employees involved in building FPL's
new Manatee Plant generator organized two teams to compete
in contributing the most food. Each Zachry employee
averaged about 170 pounds of donated food.
The real winners were the less-fortunate
people of Manatee County, who will put this food to
good use, said Doug Traphagan, Zachry's project manager.
These same Zachry employees have
also contributed to the Manatee United Way campaign,
totaling more than $30,000 in payroll deductions that
will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Zachry.
"Zachry wants to leave behind
more than a well-built power plant. We want to build
positive relationships and good memories in the communities
where we work and live," Mr. Traphagan said.
Zachry and FPL employees are constructing
a new, environmentally-advanced, natural gas-fired,
combined-cycle generating unit at FPL's Manatee plant
site that will be capable of serving an additional 235,000
customers throughout the company's service area beginning
in mid-2005.
