Zachry
Mobilizes at
Santee Cooper's New Coal Unit
July
2004
(Cross, South Carolina) - Zachry has
mobilized on a new project with longstanding customer
Santee Cooper. The new Cross Station facility will operate
at 600 Mw and is the third of four units to be built
at the site.
"The new coal plants will help stabilize our long-term
energy costs," said Santee Cooper's president and
chief executive officer Lonnie Carter.
In an effort to minimize costs, Santee
Cooper chose to build its new plants at existing coal
stations, like Cross, and employ an experienced contractor,
like Zachry, familiar with Santee Cooper's processes,
procedures, culture and expectations.
Zachry's scope of work on the Mechanical
Equipment Erection contract is expected to last about
28 months, and includes erection and installation of
high-pressure and low-pressure condensers, a bottom
ash hopper, tripper conveyor equipment, limestone and
reagent preparation handling systems, gypsum dewatering
equipment, two forced-draft fans and two induced-draft
fans.
