Zachry
Receives Port of Houston Authority Commission’s
Top Ranking For Bayport Container and Cruise Terminal
Contract Negotiations
July
2004
(Houston, Texas) - The Port of Houston
Authority Commission (PHAC) has authorized Zachry to
begin contract negotiations for construction of the
$34 - $40 million container yard for Phase 1A of the
Bayport Container and Cruise Terminal. Following an
evaluation of competitive sealed proposals, Zachry received
the commission's top ranking for contract negotiation.
"We are very excited to be considered
for these opportunities to work with the Port of Houston
Authority on the Bayport project," said David Zachry,
president of Zachry's civil group. "We believe
the synergies created by our work on the dredging, wharf
construction and container yard construction projects
will provide tremendous value to the port authority
because of our commitment to cost control, environmental
performance, small business participation and community
relations."
In addition to competitive pricing,
the PHAC asked Zachry to highlight their plans for promoting
environmental quality, small business sub-contractor
participation and community outreach on the Bayport
container yard project.
Zachry’s price was the lowest,in
the amount of $36.93 million, and called for 67 percent
small business sub-contractor participation. As part
of Zachry’s pledge to meet or exceed the PHAC's
requirements, the company will work to reduce construction
traffic, dust and air emissions by providing an on-site
electrical batch plant. Zachry will also limit construction
work performed at night to minimize the impact on local
citizens and roadways.
Earlier this year, Zachry also received
the commission's top ranking for negotiation of an estimated
$57 million contract for dredging and wharf construction
at Bayport.
