June
2004
Zachry has been awarded an engineering
and construction contract for a 45-Mw cogeneration unit
at Columbian Chemicals Company’s carbon black
plant in Centerville, Louisiana.
Primary Energy will serve as the developer
for the new unit, which will supply power and steam
to the carbon black plant and the merchant market. Primary
Energy will also perform the front-end engineering,
as Zachry is now in the early stages of detailed engineering.
The unit is expected to be operational by mid-2005.
Carbon black is an engineered compound
used in tires and mechanical goods. Carbon black enhances
product strength and durability, and it is used for
pigments in paints, inks and plastics.
