BVZ
wins AGC’s Marvin M Black Excellence in Partnering
Award
June
2004
(Thompsons, Texas) – The Brazos
Valley Electrical Generating Facility project, a joint
venture between Zachry and Black & Veatch (BVZ Power
Partners), received the prestigious Marvin M. Black
Excellence in Partnering Award at the annual Associated
General Contractors’ luncheon in Orlando, Florida.
The award recognizes construction
projects that best implemented the principles of partnering.
Nine projects throughout the nation received the award,
and four more projects were honored with a special recognition.
The evaluation process included a
review of the project’s overall success, and the
project teams’ efforts in working together with
all project stakeholders to achieve a common goal through
the use of effective communication and team building
activities.
The Brazos Valley project involved
construction of a 600-Mw, natural gas-fired, combined-cycle
power plant in Thompsons, Texas. BVZ established an
aggressive timeline for project completion, and created
a blueprint for success through regular team building
and partnering sessions. Project work began in July
2001 and was completed six weeks ahead of schedule in
July 2003.
