Moving Along at Titan’s Medley Plant
March
2004
(Medley, Florida) - ZCC’s 17-
month plant expansion contract with Titan Cement is
well underway, with more than 650 employees and 150
subcontractors hard at work at the Medley site. ZCC’s
mandate is to help increase the plant’s clinker
production capacity by 5,000 tons per day, with the
additions of a 426- foot preheater tower, refractory,
blend silo, rotary kiln, electrical rooms, bag house,
clinker cooler and raw mill area.
The job is 55 percent complete, with
more than 700,000 work hours and zero lost time incidents,
after mobilizing in January 2003. Zachry’s longtime
friend and alliance partner AMEC has almost finished
the engineering work, all major deliveries have been
completed and the action is now at the job site.
“It’s our turn to deliver
now,” said Project Manager Ben Sims. “We’re
wide open and ready to go with about 150 iron workers,
riggers and operators that deal exclusively with structural
steel. Aggressive scheduling is always a challenge,
but with the workforce, resources and equipment we’ve
got here, it’s certainly an achievable goal.”
