Partners with H-E-B to Construct Fleet Maintenance Facility
March
2004
(San Antonio, Texas) – Zachry
has entered into an agreement to build a tractor-trailer
fleet maintenance facility for fellow San Antonio-based
organization H. E. Butt Grocery Company (H-E-B).
Construction of the structure, which
will be located on H-E-B’s property on Interstate
Highway 35 near Rittiman Road, began in March and is
expected to wrap up by mid-October.
The project is master-planned in three
phases, and funding is currently allocated for the first
phase. Zachry is working with the customer to creatively
determine the most appropriate phasing so that the facilities
will be available for H-E-B’s use as needed. The
project consists of the maintenance building and a tractor-trailer
staging area, which will essentially be a huge paved
parking lot for the big rigs.
The pre-engineered metal building,
with a steel-paneled exterior and roof, will house an
administrative area and a complete mechanic shop with
everything needed to maintain H-E-B’s large fleet,
including ceiling-mounted cranes, automatic truck wash
equipment, lube bays, wheel alignment bays, compressed
air systems, and oil and grease dispensing systems.
Zachry’s team will install an extensive piping
system to allow the delivery of compressed air, oil,
grease and other automotive fluids to the appropriate
bays.
According to Caddell, the project’s
biggest challenge will most likely be its tight schedule.
“We’ll be coordinating closely with several
subcontractors to make sure everything gets done in
the time frame set by H-E-B,” he said.
