Zachry Equipment Department Attains 'Star' Status
March
2005
(San Antonio, Texas) - After
three years of meticulous record keeping and a tireless team
effort to maintain one of the safest workplaces in the industry,
ZCC’s Equipment Department has earned the Occupational
Health and Safety Administration’s (OSHA) highest honor.
The OSHA Voluntary Protection
Program (VPP) Star Award recognizes the team’s outstanding
safety accomplishments within a corporate equipment support
department —specifically, it recognizes the implementation
of a comprehensive
safety and health management system.
No safety recognition is more
inclusive and difficult t achieve than OSHA Star status,"
said Corporate Safety Director Warren Davis. “Maintaining
such an enviable level of performance requires a total commitment
from management
and craftworkers alike. Every employee must be involved, knowledgeable
and fully engaged, because meeting OSHA Star standards takes
an incredible amount of practical and written execution of
the entire safety program, practices and processes. We are
very proud of this outstanding achievement.”
OSHA’s verification includes
an application review and a rigorous on-site evaluation by
a team of OSHA safety and health experts. The verification
qualifies sites to one of three programs, including Star,
Merit and Star Demonstration.
Sites that qualify must submit annual self-evaluations and
undergo periodic on-site re-evaluations to remain in the program.
