Zachry
Begins Second Consecutive TAMU-CC Project

(Corpus Christi, Texas) - Zachry broke
ground in February 2004 on a three-story, 66,000-square-foot
classroom facility at Texas A&M University-Corpus
Christi, marking the beginning of the company’s
second consecutive project on the campus.
The Texas A&M University System
selected ZCC to construct the $11 million facility,
which will help accommodate the institution’s
recent and projected enrollment growth. The building
will house classrooms, auditoriums and lecture halls,
and is designed to complement the architecture of the
campus’ existing and future buildings, including
the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico, which
ZCC began constructing in June 2003.
“It’s going to be a good-looking
building,” said Rene Garcia, director of ZCC’s
Commercial Building Division. “It will feature
some non-traditional design elements that will give
it unique character while allowing it to visually tie
into the rest of the campus.”
Crews will construct a concrete superstructure
to support a three-dimensional, cast-in-place concrete
roof structure similar to the tile wave mosaic on the
nearby HRI building. The classroom facility was engineered
with its proximity to the ocean in mind and is designed
to withstand hurricane-force winds.
