People
are our most important asset at Zachry Construction Corporation
and its subsidiaries (Zachry). “Genuine Know-how”
defines who we are, what we do and how we work. Zachry characterizes
this blend of intellect, attitude, culture, and operational
networks as “Genuine Know-how.”
From constructing the world’s
first modular high-rise hotel, to raising funds to buy
a new motorized wheelchair lift for a four-year-old
girl with a challenging motor control disorder, Zachry’s
contributions have benefited millions and touched the
hearts of individuals in need.
Our Genuine Know-how impacts the delivery
of Zachry’s services, and fuels our success and
continued growth. Zachry's commitment to excellence
leads us to raise performance standards, reach out to
the community, and provide better solutions for our
customers.
For example, in 2004 Zachry crews
at the Dallas High Five Project minimized construction
impact on traffic flow and improved workflow efficiency
by using an innovative, specially-designed segment
erector. At the Philips/ Sweeny Complex, Zachry
employed a rock splitter typically used in mining applications
to decrease pump base plate removal time from two days
to 20 minutes.
Zachry has also positioned itself at the
leading edge of technology. Our commitment to technology dates
back to the 1950s, when H.B. Zachry Company developed the
Critical Path Method, a highly-efficient construction planning
system. More recently, progressive GPS and robotic machine
control technology have allowed us to improve productivity
and reduce waste on state highway projects. We have also employed
state-of-the-art software solutions to optimize operations
through the visual simulation of work processes. This revolutionary
project-planning tool has significantly enhanced productivity.
Over the past 83 years, Zachry has completed
1,000 heavy construction projects, 30 international projects,
and 1,500 telecommunications projects. Between 1998 and 2004,
Zachry installed 53,081 MW of power (equal to the total
power output of Indiana). Since the 1950’s we have
completed 110 new power generation facilities and upgrades.
On every job, in every locationTh, Zachry remains committed
to supporting the community. An average of 75 percent of
our employees participate in contributing to the company-wide
United Way campaign.
Zachry’s Genuine Know-how has helped
create our record of “best in class” and “first-time”
achievements, such as the completion of the 500-room Hilton
Palacio del Rio Hotel in 202 days, and setting a one-day record
by paving 5,312.5 linear feet of 50-foot-wide, 15-inch thick
taxiway at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In
the mid-70s, Zachry pioneered its own Zachry Materials Management
System. In the early 1980s, following the passage of the Public
Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978, H.B. Zachry Company
partnered with Capitol Power, Inc., and Bayport Cogeneration
to operate the first independently-owned cogeneration plant.
Genuine Know-how also characterizes
Zachry’s family-based culture, and the value we
place on our individual employees. Their professionalism
and dedication to service ensure that Zachry has management
and craft personnel who are knowledgeable, conscientious
and experienced.
Zachry celebrates the loyalty and
Genuine Know-how of our employees in many ways, one
of which is the 25-Year Club. Established in 1977, the
25-Year Club recognizes the men and women who have worked
with Zachry for 25 years or more. Today the club has
more than 600 members. That’s a clear tribute
to the culture created by sharing Genuine Know-how.
